The Edgerton Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. âTail Wagginâ Tutorsâ will be held at the library on designated Mondays starting on March 30th. Following meetings will be held on the Mondays of April 13th, April 27th, and May 11th. From 3:30 to 4:30 pm, children will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to Registered Therapy dogs. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian. You must register to attend the first meeting date by Monday, March 23rd.
According to the Therapy Dog International website, âThe main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and âdog-friendlyâ atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading.â This program creates excitement about reading and is a great opportunity for children to build confidence and improve their reading skills. âTail Wagginâ Tutorsâ enables children to read aloud in an environment where they do not feel self-conscious and at the same time, can enjoy the company of the therapy dogs. The participating dogs have their certificates from Therapy Dog International and are trained to be calm and gentle. More information about âTail Wagginâ Tutorsâ can be found at the TDI website: http://www.tdi-dog.org/OurPrograms.aspx?Page=Libraries
