The Pioneer Branch Library will be holding many exciting Summer Reading events, starting on June 7 and ending on July 9. Summer reading registration starts on Tuesday, June 1.
Summer Reading will be filled not only with fun activities but also with reading prizes! The more you read the more prizes you’ll receive! When you check out books from the library, you’ll be able to choose something from the treasure box. Weekly incentives will be awarded upon the return of books read. Reading incentives will be available throughout the month of July as supplies last. All books, ebooks, digital books, audiobooks checked out on your WCPL library card counts in the reading awards program. Every summer reader will also be given a FREE book!
Summer Reading activities and programs will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Visit the Pioneer Branch Library for Tuesday Twisters on the Tuesdays of June 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 1:00 pm. Each week will have a different theme, along with a correlating activity, and outside game. The June 8 theme will be Kings and Queens, where you will create your own crown and scepter. Make a fire breathing dragon at the Mythical Creatures program on June 15. Put together a small fairy or gnome garden, to go along with the Fairies and Gnomes theme on June 22. Gnome bowling will be played outside. The June 29 program will have a Comic Books theme, where you will create your own comic book!
Summer Reading Wednesdays will be filled with special events and amazing guests! Kick off the fun on Wednesday, June 9 at 1:00pm with the Jim Barron Magic Show, at the Crommer Park Shelter House! The library will then be holding a Unicorns and Dragons Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop on June 16. Kids will be able to hand stuff their own mythical plush pal! This program will be held in two sessions, at the library, with times being at 10:30am or 1:00pm. Please pre register as there’s a limit of 12 attendants per session. The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo will be bringing the Zoomobile to Pioneer on June 23 at 1:00pm. The zoo will hold the special program Creeping, Crawling, and Flying at the Crommer Park Shelterhouse. Please register for this program as there’s a limit of 60 participants. On June 30 at 10:00am Drummunity will be held at the Crommer Park Shelterhouse. A “drummunity” circle is a high energy, fun, and empowering activity for any age. The drum circle facilitator will bring her collection of instruments to transform our community into a drummunity! For the final Summer Reading special event, the Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop, Puppy Love will be held at the library at 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 7 and again at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 14. Hand stuff your own puppy plush pal! There is a limit of 10 participants. Please reserve your puppy spot.
STEM CAMP will be held Monday, July 19 through Thursday, July 22, at 1 pm each day. Kids, ages 8-12 make sure to sign up and take part in 4 days of fun and challenging activities, that teach science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)! Work with others in your peer group to create fully functional projects. Must register to attend.
For all programs held at the Crommer Park Shelterhouse, please bring your own towel, blanket, or chair to sit on. In the event of inclement weather, programs will be moved inside to the Pioneer Community Center.
Summer Reading programming will continue on Thursdays with Eaglets story time at 10:30, for children ages 2 through 5 years old. Story times will be held on June 10, 17, 24, and July 1, and 8. Each week will have a different theme with June themes being Kings and Queens, Dragons and Unicorns, and Fairies and Gnomes, followed by the July themed weeks of Comics and Heroes, and Mermaids and Pirates. Please register to attend.
