Join Denver Henderson at the WCPL Local History Center to find out how these forms of music are a part of our daily lives as the soundtrack of advertising, popular music, film, and even cartoons. The OH DEAR, IT’S… program will take each form of music and offer examples of how the art form has been integrated into popular culture. In a series of three programs beginning in February, Denver Henderson will introduce a form of music and present its use in everyday forms.

From the use of Wagner in the film APOCOLYPSE NOW, to luxury advertising, opera has been used to add a touch of class to everyday experiences. Explore the wonderfully diverse use of opera in this program, which will include a viewing of the classic Looney Tunes cartoon “What’s Opera, Doc?”
OH DEAR, IT’S… JAZZ! Monday, April 22 at 6pm
Dave Brubeck’s TAKE FIVE used to sell Lexus, TAKE THE A TRAIN promotion music from New York Mass Transit Authority, jazz is everywhere! Explore how from its inception, jazz, “America’s classical music”, has become the musical language of the nation.
OH DEAR, IT’S… SHOWTUNES! Monday, August 12, at 6pm
A crash course in Broadway music that made it mainstream! Not just in the worlds of advertising and movies, showtunes have been topping the charts in popular music for well over 60 years. Find out how these songs made it from the stage to the screen, and into your life.
