Williams County Public Library to Celebrate National Library Week 2023
The Williams County Public Library will be joining libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and by libraries across the country each April.
National Library Week 2023 will run from April 23rd through the 29th, with a theme of “There’s More to the Story”. Williams County Public Library provides free access to materials such as books, movies, music, audio books, and digital books for all ages. WCPL also provides many services to the public including free computer and internet access, notary appointments, homebound services, as well as in-person and online programming, and WCPL is fine-free!
To celebrate National Library Week, Williams County Public Library will have a special giveaway. Branches in Bryan, Edgerton, Edon, Pioneer, Stryker and West Unity will each have an educational gift basket that children can enter to win, by receiving a ticket/chance to win for each book checked out. For those who are new to the library, when you sign up for a library card you will automatically receive 10 tickets/chances to win the contest! The contest will run through National Library Week, with winners being chosen the following week. Each basket is filled with fun and educational items, such as the Lite Brite game, a Crayola Colossal Creativity Tub, Dinosaur Egg Excavation, items for outdoor fun, family activities, and more!
The Bryan Main Library will hold programming through National Library Week, starting with Family Bingo at 5:30pm on Monday, April 24th. On Tuesday, April 25th attend Storytime at 10:30am, and adults are welcome to join Mahjong Club at 1pm. Advanced Craft Hour for tweens ages 8-12 will take place on Wednesday, April 26th at 4pm. Come make a yarn bunny! Registration is required to attend. Also taking place on April 26th is “An Evening with Gov. Richard Celeste: A Conversation & Book Signing” at 6pm, with an Opening Reception at 5:30pm. This program is open to all ages, with no registration required to attend. On Thursday, April 27th Friends of Fiber will meet at 2pm, and Lego Club will then be held at 4pm. Sign up is required to attend the Dungeons & Dragons Club meeting at 5pm that same day.
The Edgerton Branch Library will hold special programming throughout NLW, with the following programs taking place during library hours: Monday, April 24th: Book in a Jar Contest! Prize awarded to winner! Tuesday, April 25th: Color Like You Mean It! & Pick up a Take-Home Craft Kit, Wednesday, April 26th: Library Book Mark Design Contest. Thursday, April 27th: Give Book Recommendations for a treat! Friday, April 28th: Poetry Creation Station & Community Jigsaw Puzzle. Weekly programming will also take place with Adult Gentle Yoga at 9:30am & Kids Canvas & Cookies at 6pm on April 24th. Registration is required for the Canvas class. On April 25th attend READ 2 Me at 3pm, and Family Storytime at 5pm! On April 26th, children can attend Puppy Dog Tales Story Time at 9:30 am, and register to attend Bingo for Books at 3:30pm. The Cup of Crime Book Club will meet that evening at the Cup of Joy Coffee Shop at 5:30pm. On Thursday, April 27th attend the Mini Bulldogs Afterschool Program at 3pm.
At the Edon Branch Library, stop in anytime and hear a story. Throughout the week there will be games and activities, turning jars, do a challenge, and try to win the guessing jar. Sign up to win the grand prize! On Monday, April 24th “Come Create” from 3 to 5pm. Use a variety of art materials to make your own project. There will also be fun trivia challenges for prizes. At 4pm on Tuesday, April 25th, watch “Puss N Boots-Last Wish” (PG). Stop in for Minute to Win It challenges on Wednesday, April 26th, and adults can register to attend the art program “Pebble Pictures” at 6pm. Adults can attend Thursday Fitness on April 27th at 9:30 am. That same day, kids can make Pipe Cleaner Art and compete in the, What's in the Bag? Challenge from 3 to 5pm. On Friday, April 28th, Family Bingo will be held from 3 to 4:30pm. Visit for fun, board games, snacks and Bingo prizes!
Programming will be held at the Pioneer Branch Library, with the Adult Creative Canvas Class on Monday, April 24th at 6pm. Register to attend. Kids in Kindergarten through 7th Grade can attend Tuesday Twisters on April 25th at 3pm. Adults are invited to meet for coffee and “Take a Break” on Wednesday, April 26th at 10am. Twisted Fibers will be held at 10am on Thursday, April 27th, followed by Adult Bingo at 1pm. The week will end with the Kids Creative Canvas Class on Friday, April 28th at 3pm. Register to attend.
The Stryker Branch Library will hold its Panther themed programs for kids with Panther Pals held on Monday, April 24th at 3:15pm, Panther Kidz on Tuesday, April 25th at 3:15pm for Kindergarten-2nd Grade, and Panther Paws on Thursday, April 27th at 11am for toddlers & Pre-K. On April 24th, the adults programs, Overreaders Anonymous, will meet at 6pm, and Build a Spring Bouquet with Pete’s Posey Patch will be held at 7pm. Registration is required for the bouquet building class. The library will also host the kids programs READ 2 Me on April 26th at 3:15pm and LEGO Club for 3rd-6th Grade on Thursday, April 27th at 3:15pm.
Visit the West Unity Branch Library for fun weekly programming with the Little Adventurers Storytime on Monday, April 24th at 11am, the K-2nd Grade Afterschool Adventurers on Tuesday, April 25th at 3:30 pm, READ 2 ME on Wednesday, April 26th at 4pm, followed by Fitness Fun for adults at 5pm, Kids Club at 3:30pm on Thursday, April 27th with Knits & Stitches then being held at 6pm. The library will also host the special event Bingo for All Ages on Monday, April 24th at 6pm. For National Library Week there will also be a guessing jar, Reading Bingo Card and some passive activities to take part in during library open hours.
