The “Black Swamp Medicine Girls” will present and demonstrate examples of antique medical devices and treatments. The history of vintage medicine bottles, diseases of the Great Black Swamp and treatments for such ailments as consumption, quincy, lumbago, rheumatism, bad breath, and gout will also be explored. Learn about the old medicine sales pitches and how half a dollar could buy you a treatment that could cure everything from baldness to curvature of the spine. Discover the adventurous antics of medicine shows in the 1850’s through the 1930’s and their performances peddling their “miracle” cures, elixirs, and devices guaranteed to improve your health.

For the Local History Center program, the Medicine Girls have been digging in their vault and will include some amazing, horrifying, and gruesome treatments, medications, and diseases thousands of innocent people endured. It’s a show geared to entertain your Halloween appetite. We dare you to attend! The Local History Center is located on the northeastern corner of High and Main Streets in Bryan, Ohio.
